Thomas O'Brien Lace Platinum Creamer: In Tilden Lace TM dinnerware, O'Brien adopts an unusual vertical field design for a modern shift away from customary concentric china patterns. A matrix of delicate criss-crossing lines is punctuated by quartets of dots a motif that originates in textile thinking, for a light and airy "woven" type of geometry. Alternating centers and rims of pattern create a graphic positive-negative effect on the table. Tilden Lace Platinum features white china with platinum lines and banding and platinum dots. Since his arrival on the New York design stage, O'Brien has been widely recognized for his trademark style of "warm modernism," bringing vanguard mid-century forms and furnishings into a context of classic comfort. In both interiors and products, his firm promotes understated elegance with a pulse on tradition, deploying pairings of old and new, sophisticated and simple, to create a style that feels at once refined and familiar.
Raleigh (2009) is a comfortable, modern collection that draws from mid-century Danish design. Wrapping around the back of this Armchair is a solid walnut frame (be sure to click on Additional Views to see it) that brings visual lightness and satisfying aesthetic tension to the design. There's also a very functional reason for the way that this frame triangulates to the back of the Chair: It permits a gracefully canted and ergonomic seatback while still solidly supporting you as you relax and unwind. DWR Design Studio chose to work with Jeffrey Bernett and Nicholas Dodziuk on this project because of the importance they place on people how they move, interact, live and, most of all, sit. Made in U.S.A. Best of Year! The Raleigh Collection received Interior Design magazine's top honor for 2010 in the residential lounge category. The angled, high back comfortably supports your upper body. Visible from the side and back, this Armchair is cradled in a solid walnut frame. Down-blend filled back cushion has a removable cover for cleaning. Materials Kiln-dried, corner-blocked hardwood frame; unidirectional web suspension; high-density, high-resiliency polyurethane foam seat cushions with Dacron® wrap; Poly-fil®-, feather- and down-blend back cushions; solid walnut external frame; fabric upholstery. Thomas O'Brien Red Wine Glass: The crystal stemware for this group conveys a gracious, romantic feel, with wider, rounder silhouettes than any other profile. Lovely tulip-shaped bowls and a looping, cursive cut pattern are inspired by a set of vintage 1950's colored glass one of O'Brien's favorite forms. The deeply articulated stems feature a finial-like finger rest, a fine American detail dating to glasses from colonial Williamsburg and earlier.
The Eames lounge chair and ottoman is perhaps the best-known example of mid-century modern furniture. It's no wonder the Eames lounge chair and ottoman are in the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art. Introduced in 1956, Charles Eames said he wanted the chair to have the 'warm receptive look of a well-used baseman's mitt.' A look that just begs you to relax in it. Both pieces are hand-assembled with meticulous attention to detail. The shells are seven-ply veneer faced with cherry, walnut or Santos Palisander -- a richly grained wood that provides a sustainable alternative to the Brazilian rosewood used on the original chair. All of the wood used on the Eames lounge and ottoman is harvested from sustainably managed forests. The upholstered leather cushions provide luxury, comfort and style in your choice of colors. The base is die-cast aluminum with a built-in swivel mechanism.
